Residents in Northwest Ohio can now stay at home longer with a little help from HandyPro and their Toledo, OH handyman services.
Aging in place is a topic that becomes more important as our population gets older. It’s a fact, at least according to a study by the AARP, that most people over the age of 65 would prefer to remain in their own home as opposed to some other alternative living arrangement, even if they need assistance to do everyday things.
AARP also projects that between 2011 and 2029, baby boomers will turn 65 at a rate of about 8,000 per day! Seeing a niche market opportunity, Lee and Yvonne Burlingame of Lucas County, have opened a HandyPro franchise, HandyPro of NW Ohio that specializes in home modification for seniors and the disabled. They service Lucas, Wood, Fulton, Williams and Ottawa Counties in Ohio.
Lee states, “What really motivated us to this business was when my mom suffered a severe stroke. After months in the hospital and assisted living, she could not be released until their home in Indianapolis was modified”. They understand the need for such services. They see the challenges of seniors and the disabled.
Lee, who received his Bachelors Degree in Construction Management, goes on to state that “the home care professionals and medical professionals are the people that really understand the needs of the person. Working around their preferences and needs, with them (and even family members) first, makes sense.” If home modifications are then needed, Lee and his team can work with them for individualized solutions to their specific needs.
Common modifications like Toledo, OH bathroom remodeling includes safety bars, stair lifts, specialized tubs/showers, bathroom transfer systems, ramps, and specialized tubs/showers. Lee’s wife, Yvonne, helps keep Lee on track and helps with the paper work. She adds, “not only do we specialize in home modifications, but we also do the little things from your ‘to-do’ lists.” Yvonne, who is also a Realtor with Key Realty, sees the need for homes that are more ‘user’ friendly for those with mobility problems.
With the high cost of assisted living facilities, it is more cost effective to modify just one’s home to fit the resident’s needs. Widening doorways, installing touch sensitive faucets or lever door handles are just a few of the technologies available to help seniors live independently. HandyPro‘s motto?
